Type Art Inks Edgings Rounded Corners

At Julie Holcomb Printers, you have many options for customizing your invitations. You can bring a fresh look to a traditional invitation style or create a stylish modern design with your choice of lettering, selection of ink color, or by adding artwork, a colored edging or rounded corners.

Type

The lettering you choose will set the tone of your invitation. Caps and small caps or all caps of a classic typeface, an open face such as Hoefler Engraved, or a classic italic or script will have the most dignified tone. Some scripts are more lighthearted and informal. A modern sans serif font like Gotham will always present a contemporary look. Whatever you choose, it should be consistent with the general style of your wedding and work well with other elements of your wedding invitation design.

We offer a selection of more than two dozen typefaces and styles. You may use any of them in one of the varied typographical layouts shown in our album, or create your own. We can also print your invitation text from calligraphy provided to us as camera-ready art or a high resolution scan.

Art

Using artwork in addition to type is a lovely way to make your invitation more personal. An image can be simply a pleasing decoration, or it can connect your invitation design more closely to the event, suggesting the season or location of your wedding, perhaps presenting a motif that will be woven throughout the festivities.

Choose your invitation design directly from our album, which includes designs from Ebony Snow Hurr of Snow & Graham, Lauren MacIntosh, and Patricia Curtan, or select from our collection of original images to create a custom design. We're also happy to print suitable art that you supply as camera ready art or a high resolution scan, provided it is your original creation, copyright-free, or you have obtained permission to use it.

Ink Colors

Nothing is more expressive of personal taste than color. Colors can evoke a mood or set a tone. Color attracts attention, and is quite simply a source of visual pleasure. In many cultures colors also embody particular meanings.

Choose from our palette of nearly thirty ink colors for printing your wedding stationery.

Edgings

Edging your invitations is a great way to bring in a color accent that will be woven throughout the design of your wedding.

Our edgings are similar to the gilt edging often found on the pages of old books. We hand-apply a colored enamel or metallic edging to a stack of invitations. When the stack is separated, each card has a coating of gold, silver, copper, or another color, such as sky blue or chocolate, on the outer edge, but not on the front or back surface. It is a subtle but striking effect. The edge presents a slim, shiny line of color which is elegant in its contrast with the creamy texture of the paper. Sky blue edging beautifully completes an invitation printed in matching sky blue ink on bright white paper. A bright edging color like orange or magenta won't overwhelm your invitation, but its fresh presence will not be missed.

We offer almost twenty edging colors. Adding an edging to your invitations adds less to the cost than a second printed color, and adds nothing to the turnaround time.

Rounded Corners

Rounded corners are an elegant complement to any invitation style, and a simple way to make your invitations distinctive without being fussy. With gold, silver or copper edging and a classic typeface printed in black, dark gray or sepia, rounded corners complete a soundly traditional look. Because they are only occasionally seen on wedding invitations, rounded corners also add to the fresh look of a contemporary invitation design.

We can round the corners of any card, any design, without adding to the turnaround time and adding very little to the cost of your wedding invitations.
